Founder and Directors
Lou Munden is the Founder of TMP Systems. He directs research and development for the group. His inventions include TMP’s Landscope system, the Dryad platform, its field monitoring systems and the company’s green bond solutions for sustainable agriculture. His 20-year career as an entrepreneur began with a temporary contract from a Web 1.0 start-up called Go2Net with just 15 employees. He headed the company’s sales strategy as it went public two years later, reaching a market capitalization of $2.4 billion in 1999. He did not graduate from a university. He lives in Tokyo.
Ben Bowie has been with TMP Systems since 2011. During that time, he has successfully directed projects across more than 20 different countries in Africa and Asia for problems such as poverty reduction, human rights, small-scale energy, gender equality, climate change and sustainable agriculture. He was formerly a consultant for a range of institutions including the Overseas Development Institute, Global Witness, the European Commission and companies in the extractive industries. He received his MSc in Asian Politics from SOAS University of London, and his BA in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University. He lives in Oxford.
Willie Munden is the holding company’s Chief Engineer, applying his solutions across its three units. Together with Lou Munden, he is the co-designer of the company’s field monitoring and biometric data collection systems.
Willie joined in 2013 after more than two decades working as a contractor for NASA, where he worked on spaceflight and laboratory instrument design, development, testing and operation. He has extensive experience with difficult use cases, from spaceflight low-earth orbits and earth-based marine surroundings to remote forests in Central Africa. He has a BS in electronics engineering from Old Dominion University and lives on Hatteras Island.
Tom is the holding company’s lead software developer. He joined the company in 2015 as a technology professional with over 25 years of experience in embedded/real-time/mission critical software and systems engineering.
Tom has been a software developer and engineer with numerous Fortune 500 companies, including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Monsanto and Motorola. He has a BSET from Purdue University and lives in the Chicago area.
Jack Denton is an Associate and lead project manager for TMP Public. He has successfully managed several of TMP’s most prominent projects, including our work on land tenure, sustainable agriculture and tropical deforestation.
Before joining the company in 2013, Jack worked on community climate change responses with the Transition Town movement while founding a social enterprise that used technology to improve transparency in coffee supply chains. Jack also worked on international and energy policy at the UK's Green Party, and on issues facing minority and indigenous communities for Minority Rights Group International. He received his MA in the Anthropology of Development from SOAS University of London, and a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology from Cambridge University. He lives in Bristol.s
Lorna Backhouse is an Associate who coordinates data analysis and statistical modelling at TMP. Her work focuses primarily on interpreting and finding relationships between environmental, social and governance indicators from geospatial datasets. She has extensive experience in data analysis and machine learning, having worked previously in the healthcare, mining, financial, telecommunications and retail industries. She is originally from South Africa where she worked on the gold and uranium mines and has travelled extensively in southern and central Africa. Lorna holds a MSc in Geostatistics and a Bachelor’s in Mathematical Statistics. She lives in Kinross, Scotland.
Kristine Garcia-Gibe is the company's lead Researcher, specializing in social and environmental data analysis. Prior to joining us in 2013, she worked on various research projects related to global environmental change, natural resources management, capacity building and outreach, and science-policy. She was a coordinator at the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research in Kobe, Japan and a researcher at the World Agroforestry Centre-Philippines. She currently also serves as the Philippines' low carbon correspondent to the Low Carbon Asia Network (LoCARNet). Kristine received an MA in Environmental Science and a BS in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. She lives in Manila.
Luan Mans is the holding company’s project manager for Africa. He implements much of the company’s ground-level work in agriculture, with a particular emphasis on monitoring systems, and also contributes to the company’s work on renewable energy. Prior to joining TMP Systems in 2017, he was a contracted project manager for agricultural projects, primarily in Malawi, Mozambique and Swaziland and for small infrastructure projects in South Africa. He has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Stellenbosch University and lives in Johannesburg.
Benedict Lever is the company’s Research Associate joining TMP Public in 2020. He works primarily on identifying environmental, social and governance data as well as providing support for a variety of research outputs, reports and datasets. He received his BA in Japanese and History of Art and Archaeology from SOAS, University of London. He lives in Bristol.
Louise Gillett joined TMP in 2018 and handles office and administration matters from billing to meeting coordination. She previously worked as and editorial assistant at Time Inc, and before that as PA and Events Manager at a HNW private family estate. She is studying Law at the University of Sheffield, where she lives.
